
The Transition Academy - Admissions Criteria
Inquire NowA full-time, two-year program designed to build independence, employment readiness, and life skills for autistic and neurodiverse young adults.
LifeWorks Transition Academy is a full-time, structured postsecondary program that empowers young adults on the autism spectrum as they transition into independent adulthood and sustainable employment. Participants build skills in employment, daily living, interpersonal relationships, and self-management through highly engaging, person-centered programming.
Programming runs Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM with 40 hours of weekly structured activities focused on real-world skill application, vocational development, and independent living
Admissions Criteria
For enrollment consideration in the LifeWorks Transition Academy, applicants must:
Be 18–35 years old
Have completed high school
Have a formal diagnosis of ASD or another neurodiverse diagnosis
Demonstrate intrinsic motivation to work, live independently, and pursue a full and abundant life
Motivation to participate in coursework, vocational training, and career-readiness programming
A desire and potential for independent living and employment
Agreement to include parents or legal guardians in progress updates when appropriate
Applicants should be able to:
Perform basic self-care tasks (hygiene, dressing, feeding, toileting)
Communicate wants, needs, preferences, and concerns
Manage prescribed medications with minimal supervision
Function safely in an apartment, community, and workplace without continuous supervision
Be emotionally and psychologically stable
Not demonstrate behaviors requiring intensive or one-to-one support
Not engage in violence or severe aggression toward self, others, or property
Have no active or chronic substance addiction concerns

Admissions Process
Step 1 – Initial Inquiry

Step 2 – Tour LifeWorks
Prospective participants and their families are strongly encouraged to visit the LifeWorks campus located adjacent to the campus of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY. Having the opportunity to tour our campus and personally meet with our program staff is the best way for you to discover if LifeWorks is the perfect fit for you. The campus visit would also include a meeting with members of our admissions team to determine if continuing the application process is appropriate.
Step 3 – Submit Application
Following a campus visit and interview with our admissions team, you may complete our online application. You will also need to provide the following required documentation:
- Psychological Evaluation with Diagnosis
High School and/or College Transcripts
History & Physical Report
Applicant Essay
Recommendation Letter
Step 4 – Interview With LifeWorks Staff
Following the application submission you will be invited for an interview at LifeWorks where you may ask any additional questions. This interview will also provide an opportunity to meet with the LifeWorks staff.
Step 5 – Acceptance Determination
Once your application and all supporting documentation have been received, the admissions team along with program staff, will review the information and determine acceptance. Additional documentation, screenings or interviews may be required. If accepted, the applicant will be notified and a program & service fees agreement must be signed in order to reserve the participant’s place in the upcoming enrollment period.
